August 20, 2011 | New web hosting and other changes
Timid Sky was moved to a new web hosting provider this week. Numerous things broke in the transition. I took the opportunity to upgrade the theme and transition how photos are handled. There is still much work to be done but the site is pretty much back to normal operation. There might be a few glitches here and there that will get fixed over the next few days or weeks.

I slightly rearranged the Top Contributors page and added multiple columns to the list of contributors for a overall better page layout. Keep an eye out for a home page redesign in the near future as well.

April 11, 2011 | Greetings!
It’s been a while since I posted a new photo and even longer since I posted a news update. It’s been a slow couple of months for me with regard to photography. However, I just got back from a vacation in Charleston, South Carolina and have over 600 photos to sort through. I know at least a few (possibly many more) will make it up to this site over the next days and weeks. Thanks for your continued interest!

January 11, 2011 | Freshened several pages and yet another Home page overhaul
Eventually I might figure out what I want to do with the Home page! Change is good, however. Added banner photos to several pages including Home, About and more. Added additional information about myself and this site on the Home page instead of one big random image (which replaced the menu grid of small photo links before it). I think the overall evolution of the site is coming along nicely, however.

The first news update of 2011! Today I updated the About page with a lot more information about my venture into the photography world. This was definitely long overdue.

First I’d like to say Happy 2011 to all Timid Sky visitors! Yes, I know it’s not 2011 yet but I figured since this is likely the last news update of 2010 I would get a head start on 2011. The first order of business for the new year for Timid Sky is a new Desktop Wallpaper section where I will make available various 4:3 and 16:9 photo art wallpapers for free. These photos will be separate from the photos that can currently be found in the photo blog and the portfolio sections. I would also like to mention that you can expect a quick review of my experience ordering business cards from Moo. Specifically what I ordered is a product they call MiniCards. You can expect that review in the next few days.

My canvas print order of Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse At Dusk arrived today. I ordered it on the 14th so it only took about a week to arrive. Not bad at all. It arrived well packed in a box much larger than the dimensions of the print with the print itself suspended in the middle of the box. The only issue is that I specified white for the wrap around the edges of the frame and instead received black wrap. I’m going to keep the one I got but I did shoot an email to Fotomoto support letting them know about the error. I will be writing up a quick review and including photos of the packaging and the canvas print and posting it under the Ancillary section. I will include any additional information I get from Fotomoto on the wrap mistake. Other than that issue my initial impressions are positive. The quality is top notch and the canvas is cleanly wrapped and attached to a solid wood frame. Stay tuned for my review.

It’s certainly not a major site redesign, but today I tweaked the look of Timid Sky so that it would be more in line with my personal website and blog, Indiscriminate Ruminations. I don’t want both sites to look exactly the same but I would like a smooth transition for visitors that link from one site to the other.

I had not yet ordered any of my photos via Fotomoto until today when I decided to go ahead and place an order for a canvas print of this photo: Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse At Dusk This happens to be one of my personal favorites of all photos I’ve shot to date. I’ve heard great things about the quality of the products created by Fotomoto so I’m really looking forward to receiving the canvas print. I ordered it 12″ x 18.4″ with “Gallery Wrap”, “White-edge wrap”, “Lustre finish” and “Wire Hangers”. I’ll be sure to post a quick review of my thoughts, along with photos of the finished product when I receive it. November 30, 2010 | Adobe Lightroom Glitch Fixed
I re-calibrated my monitors and the posterization/gradient banding issue has been fixed. Weird!
November 29, 2010 | Technical Glich With Lightroom
An odd technical glitch with Adobe Lightroom 3 prevented me from getting a new photo posted to the photoblog yesterday. For some reason certain photos are displaying odd posterization/gradient banding artifacts. I first noticed this a few weeks ago on some photos I shot at the Rally To Restore Sanity (on my D40…the more recent are on my D7000). As a test, I loaded these same RAW images into Lightroom on a dfferent computer (my laptop) and they look perfectly fine (in addition to looking perfectly fine in Nikon ViewNX and Faststone Image Viewer on my main computer). Not sure what the problem is yet, but I like to work on my photos from my main computer when possible because it has much better LCD monitors than the LCD display on my old laptop and is also much faster. Hopefully I will get this resolved soon.
November 28, 2010 | Back from the Outer Banks
Yesterday evening I returned from a week long vacation in Corolla, North Carolina (Outer Banks). I shot a little over 1400 photos and around 45 movies with my brand new Nikon D7000. I’ve posted over 50 shots to my personal Facebook page for friends. I will no doubt be adding many of those to this website soon. I plan to get the first one posted later today. Not all will be posted to the photoblog, just the best. However, many more will be added to the portfolio. So keep an eye out for that over the next few days and weeks.
